The Medical University of Graz is a Medical University in Austria, which has existed since 1 January 2004, and since 1863 part of the Karl- Franzens- University of Graz had been a medical school.

History

Since the enactment of the Universities Act 2002 on 1 January 2004, the Medical University of Graz (as well as the Medical University of Vienna and the Medical University of Innsbruck ) was a separate university, which emerged from the former Faculty of Medicine, Karl- Franzens- University of Graz. Medical training was done in the context of a medical-surgical studies since 1782, the founding of the Medical Faculty in 1863 by Emperor Franz Joseph I.

The reconciliation of the medical faculty at the Medical University was part of the foundation of the convent under the leadership of chairman Karl Heinz Tscheliessnigg with the election of the first rector Gerhard Franz Walter. After the first period of the Rectorate of the Medical University Walter from October 2007 to March 2008, led by the former Vice-Chancellor and founding convention chairman Tscheliessnigg until Josef Smolle was elected as the new rector.

The University Library of the Medical University of Graz was before the splitting of the two universities, a part of the University Library of Graz.

On 8 October 2012, the very first white coat ceremony in Austria was held as a joint project with the National Union of Students at the Medical University of Graz, which was a big jump in the promotion of corporate identity and identification of students with their alma mater.

Research

History

In the history of the Medical University (or medical school ) had three Nobel Prize winners in Graz.

Research priorities

The Medical University of Graz put her research areas through the establishment of " research areas " fixed. Committees and management

Rectorship

The rector of the university is Josef Smolle, vice-rectors are Hans -Peter Dimai for teaching and learning, Andrea Langmann for Human Resources and Gender Equality and Irmgard Theresia lip for research. University Director Gerald Lackner.

Senate

The Academic Senate consists of 9 professors, four student members, 4 members of the central building and a representative of the general university staff. As chairman of the Senate conducts Andreas Wedrich the meetings.

University

The Senate appointed Hans Sünkel, Joseph Marko and Reinhard Krepler as members of the University Council. The federal government sent Michaela Moritz, Cattina Maria Leitner and Hildegunde Piza. As a seventh member Heinz Felsner was elected at the meeting on 19 March 2013. In the Uniratssitzung from March 19, 2013 Cattina Maria Leitner as chairman, Reinhard Krepler were re-elected as vice chairman and Joseph Marko as secretary of Unirates.

Studierektor

In the Senate meeting held on 18 January 2012, were elected John Schalamon as Studierektor and Erwin Petek as Vice Rector study.

Students ' and Students' Union

The Students' and Students' Union at the Medical University of Graz ( Graz Med Students' Union ) represents the students of the University. It consists of the University of representation, and the study representations for human medicine, dentistry, health and nursing science and doctoral degree programs. Diploma studied medicine (O 202)

The study of human medicine in Graz comprises 12 semester in three study periods of 2, 8 and 2 semesters. The circumference is 242.7 semester hours of required courses, 30 semester hours of electives and 28 semester hours of free electives, making a total of 300.7 semester hours at a workload of 360 ECTS points. Unlike in Vienna and Innsbruck, the 16 weeks of required can be stored at stations of your own choice, although only a maximum of 4 weeks in non -bedded leading institutions, such as pathological or pathophysiological institutions recognized.

Access restrictions

In the winter semester 2005/ 06 could - after a corresponding thereto judgment of the ECJ - even university applicants enroll who could not produce a study place in their home country, which triggered a rush especially German university applicants. The number of places offered was increased from 160 (2006) 360 (2008). 334 places are available for human medicine, 26 for dentistry. The number of applicants increased from 639 (2007) and 2006 (2012 ).

Since 2011, applies an access restriction for the newly-created dual Bachelor degree Nursing Science. The assessment test for nursing science study comprises the areas of biology and understanding of the text and the situational -judgment test.

Preclinical

The pre-clinic of the Medical University of Graz is located on the campus of the University of Graz in the Harrachgasse 21 and houses the Institute of Anatomy, human genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry, biophysics and physiology.

Clinic

The clinical training at the Medical University of Graz will take place on the grounds of LKH- Universitätsklinikum Graz, for the most part. Other teaching hospitals of the Medical University of Graz in Styria are the LKH Graz West, the clinics of the Brothers Graz, the Geriatric Health Centres Graz, the LKH Leoben, the Emergency Hospital, the LKH Bruck, the LKH Germany Berg, the LKH box Bach, the LKH Fürstenfeld that LKH Hartberg, the LKH Hörgas / Enzenbach, the LKH Jews Burg- Knittel field that LKH Klagenfurt, the provincial psychiatric hospital Sigmund Freud Graz, the LKH Stolzalpe, the LKH Voitsberg, the LKH Weiz, the Marienkrankenhaus Vorau and Elisabethiner clinics Graz.

MED CAMPUS

It should accommodate a total of 840 employees and 1200 students. The cost of this project is estimated at € 155 million.
