Mehmet Fuat Köprülü

Mehmet Fuat Koprulu Mehmed Fuad Köprülüzade to 1934 (* 1888 in Istanbul, † June 28, 1966 ) was a Turkish historian and politician.

He came from the prominent Koprulu family and was also called Köprülüzade. He was known for his contributions to the history of the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish folklore, literature and language. As a historian, he dealt with the " origin of the Ottoman Empire " and wrote about " The Seljuks of Anatolia. Their history and culture according to local Muslim sources "and" Islam in Anatolia after the Turkish invasion ".

Biography

Mehmet Fuat was born in Istanbul and was a descendant of the sister of the famous Ottoman Grand Vizier Koprulu Mehmed Pasha. Mehmet Fuat visited the Mercan University in Istanbul. Then he moved to the School of Law ( Mekteb -i Hukuk ), which he left in 1909. In 1912, he was below the founders of the Türk Ocağı (German Turkish home club ). After teaching at several schools, he was appointed with the support of Ziya Gokalp 1913 Professor of Turkish Literature at the Darülfünun ( from 1933 Istanbul University ). Here he remained until 1939. 1924, he worked for several months in the State Ministry of Education. In the same year he founded the Darülfünun the Chair of Turkish Studies. After 1939 he moved to Ankara where he taught at the University at the Faculties of Political Science and the Arts.

In January 1946, he founded with Refik Koraltan, Celâl Bayar and Adnan Menderes, the Democrat Parti and then after the general elections 1950 to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State in 1955. He is regarded as the leading figure on the participation of the Turkish armed forces in NATO. With the military coup on 27 May 1960, he was, like many other members of the Democrat Parti imprisoned on the island Yassıada. He was acquitted by the Yassıada processes. In 1961 he founded a short-lived party called Yeni Parti Democrat ( dt: New Democratic Party ). He retired shortly afterwards from politics. Mehmet Fuat died on June 28, 1966 to the late effects of a car accident in Ankara. He is in the Graveyard Çemberlitaş in a family grave alongside his father.
