Meir ben Isaac Katzenellenbogen

Meir ben Isaac Katzenellenbogen (* 1482 in Katzenelenbogen, Ebertshausen, Rhineland -Palatinate, † January 12, 1565 in Padua, also called Meir of Padua, Maharam Padua, Hebrew: מאיר בן יצחק קצנלנבויגן ) was a Venetian Jewish scholar, Rabbi of Padua and Venice.

After his studies in Prague in the school of the then famous scholar Jacob Pollak, he went to Padua, where he attended the Yeshiva of Judah Minz, whose granddaughter he married later. He followed his father Abraham Minz in office as rabbi of Padua, a position he held until his death. Although Meir's official residence was Padua, but he attended as Rabbi of Venice several times in the lagoon city. After his death, his son Rabbi Shmuel - Yehudah took over the post of Rabbi of Venice.

He was considered one of the principal authority on the Talmud and the matter of the rabbinate.
