Melotone Records (US)

Melotone Records was an American record label, which existed in the 1930s.

History of Labels

The label Melotone was introduced in the early 1930s from Brunswick Records sublabel than to publish as cheap price label for the North American market shellac records. In 1932 it became part of the American Record Corporation; after 1938 it was no longer continued. In 2010 Melotone Records was reactivated as a division of Melotone Music LLC.

On the label appeared during the time of the Great Depression especially popular dance music, country music, Hawaiian music and blues, Cajun music and jazz. On the label appeared, inter alia, records of Gene Autry, Charlie Barnet, Big Bill Broonzy, Chick Bullock ( inter alia with the "Georgia Foot Warmers " ), Eddie Cantor, Buddy Clark, Bing Crosby, Cliff Edwards, Blind Boy Fuller Annette Hanshaw, Harlan Lattimore, Leadbelly, Vincent Lopez, Clyde McCoy, François Moseley, Will Osborne, Tex Ritter, Gil Rodin, Vincent Rose and Victor Young.
