Memorial Beach

Memorial Beach is the fifth studio album by the Norwegian pop-rock band a-ha, which was released on 14 June 1993.

History

As producer David Z. was hired, who had also produced the million-seller Kiss by Prince. As a sideman bassist Jorum " JB " Boseberg and drummer Per Hillestad were committed for the whole album this time.

JD and Jevetta Steele of the American gospel group The Steeles, and singer Kathy Wilson contributed the background vocals to Move to Memphis and Lie Down in Darkness. Nine songs from the album were composed by Pål Waaktaar. Magne Furuholmen wrote Lamb to the Slaughter and a new version of the already on the Hitzusammenstellung Headlines and Deadlines - The Hits of represented a-ha Move to Memphis, which both have composed together.

Criticism

Retrieved from " Memorial Beach " three more Top 50 singles of the band in the UK were released, "Move to Memphis ", " Dark the Night" and " Angel in the Snow". In September it was released exclusively in the U.S. " Lie Down In Darkness". The album did not reach the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "Dark is the Night ", the single reached number 11 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles.

It is the only album of A -ha, the world's one million could not break through until now with 722,000 copies sold. In Norway, only 35,000 units were sold, as well as in the U.S., only 30,000 copies of " Memorial Beach " were sold.

The album shows a-ha in a musical maturity that was still not really recognized. The brand " Beautiful boys band" was stored here. A " live atmosphere " is offered, which is rare to find on a studio album that was not promoted at last from producer David Z.. The initial focus in the recordings unconditionally to the musical talent of a-ha.

Critics therefore met the album with conflict. "The album is like a good wine, the older the better with the years ."

Even today, the vinyl edition of " Memorial Beach " a coveted rarity.
