Memos Ioannou

Agamemnon Ioannou (Greek Αγαμέμνων Ιωάννου; born April 15, 1958 in Athens, Greece ) is a retired Greek professional basketball player and coach. Ioannou belonged to the selection could win in 1987 the first European Championship title in Greece.

Playing career

His career began Ioannou 1974 Panathinaikos where he was under contract for 16 years and in addition to six championships and was able to win three Cup wins. In 1990 he moved to PAOK Thessaloniki where he could win the European Cup Winners' Cup the following year. He repeated a second time in 1993 with Aris Thessaloniki this success.

National

His debut with the Greek national team gave Ioannou in a game against Hungary on 27 October 1982. During the following eight years Papaioannou maintained 64 international matches and scored 249 points. His greatest achievement was winning the gold medal at the European Championships in 1987 in his own country. His last game he gave on August 19, 1990 in a game against Brazil. With the U16 national team Ioannou won the silver medal at the European Championships in 1975.

Coaching career

His coaching career began in 1994 at Ioannou Aris Thessaloniki. In the following years he trained a number of Greek and Cypriot clubs. His major successes include the four championships in a row he could win with Keravnos Strovolou and APOEL Nicosia. With Panionios Athens in 2004, he reached the third place in the Greek championship.
