Merciless

Merciless is a Swedish Death-/Thrash-Metal-Band from Strängnäs.

Band History

Merciless in 1986 Straengnaes by Erik Wallin (guitar ) Fredrik Karlén (bass ), Stefan Carlsson (drums) and Kale ( vocals) founded, first under the name Obsessed and Black Mass. Musical influences were Kreator, Sodom and Bathory. The first demo Behind the Black Door was released in 1987. Shortly after Kale was replaced by Roger " Rogga " Pettersson. With him the 1988 demo Realm of the Dark was born.

1990 was her debut album The Awakening on Death Like Silence Productions, the newly founded label from Øystein " Euronymous " Aarseth publish, the band. Performances with Dismember, Dissection and Sepultura followed. In 1991 the band signed with Active Records; there should be released a second album, but due to some issues with the label first a split 7 "with the Entombed-/The-Krixhjälters-Seitenprojekt Comecon was published. While waiting on the release of Stefan Carlsson and Peter Stjärnvind joined the band. In 1992, The Treasures Within one year late.

1993 toured with Entombed Merciless and then took Dan Swanö the album on Unbound, which was released in 1994 on No Fashion Records. After a single concert in May, the band broke up. 1995 Merciless was briefly reanimated to take a Slayer tribute album Cryonics.

1999, as part of the re-release of their debut album on Osmose Productions, the band was reformed and played some successful concerts. In 2003, the self-titled fourth album. 2004 increased founding member Stefan Carlsson again. In the same year, the DVD Live obsession appeared.

Importance

Merciless is one of the longest-serving Swedish extreme metal bands. The debut album, and - to a lesser extent - also the following publications are among the classics of the Swedish Metal underground.
