Merpati Nusantara Airlines

Merpati Nusantara Airlines is an Indonesian airline based in Jakarta.

History

The airline was founded on September 6, 1962 as the second national carrier. By 2001, the largest Indonesian airline Garuda Indonesia belonged to the parent company Merpati Nusantara, the Indonesian state owned 100 percent. Thereafter, the two companies were separated. Merpati Nusantara Airlines as well as 50 other Indonesian airlines (as of July 2007) were included in the black list of the EU, so that there is a Banned in the EU for all their machines.

Destinations

The airline flies to all major and many small Indonesian cities. In addition, Darwin in Australia and Dili in East Timor.

As of July 2013, the fleet of Merpati Nusantara Airlines consists of 30 aircraft:

Incidents

The Aviation Safety Network Website of the records from 1971 to September 2011 a total of 33 incidents resulting in death or total loss of the aircraft. Some incidents of the recent past are listed here as examples:

  • On August 2, 2009, a DHC -6 Twin Otter crashed ( ID PK- NVC ) from with 14 passengers and two crew members on board the flight from Jayapura to Oksibil 9760D (Indonesia). The wreckage of the plane was discovered after two-day search about 40 kilometers from Oksibil away on a mountain slope at an altitude of about 2800 meters. When this accident every 16 occupants were killed.
  • On 13 April 2010, a Boeing 737-300 Merpati Nusantara Airlines of rolled on the flight from Sorong 836 with 25 passengers and 2 crew members on the end of the runway in Manokwari (Papua Barat, Indonesia) out into a river and broke it in the middle. 20 passengers were injured, one seriously, two life-threatening.
  • On 7 May 2011 a crashed Xi'an MA60 ( ID PK- MZK ) on the flight 8968 from Sorong to Kaimana with 21 passengers and 4 crew members on board before Kaimana into the sea. During the approach to runway 19, the aircraft struck 04:45 UTC clock about 500 m before reaching the runway at the water. Of the 25 passengers survived the crash, no one. The visibility was significantly less than 2000 meters in mist and rain.
