Messier 105

Messier 105 (also known as NGC 3379 ) is a bright elliptical galaxy 9,50 like with a surface area of 5.1 '× 4.7 ' in the constellation Leo. It belongs to the M96 group.

High-resolution images from the Hubble Space Telescope show an annular structure around the central black hole, which is in rapid rotation. According to calculations, the mass of the black hole is approximately 50 million solar masses. In the immediate vicinity is also the elliptical or lenticular galaxy NGC 3384th

Discovery

The galaxy Messier 105 was discovered on 24 March 1781 of the French astronomer Pierre Méchain. It was only included in the Messier catalog later.
