Messier 74

Messier 74 (also known as NGC 628) is a spiral galaxy with the apparent size 10.5 ' x 9.5 ' and the apparent magnitude of 9.1 mag in the constellation Pisces. The galaxy was discovered in September 1780 by Pierre Méchain and reported to Charles Messier to catalog. In M74 three supernovae have been observed in the 21st century (SN 2002ap, SN and SN 2003gd 2013ej ).
