Mestral Castle

The castle of Saint-Saphorin (also called Château de Mestral ) is located in the same place Saint- Saphorin- sur -Morges (municipality Echichens ) in the canton of Vaud.

The neoclassical building was built in the 17th century on the remains of a fortified house. At the beginning of the 16th century, two ruling families divided the territory in which the castle was to be built later: the aristocrats of Saint- Saphorin and Colombier. Therefore, it today has two watchtowers. The Colombier eliminated in the middle of the 16th century from the owner, as Marguerite of Colombier to François d' Allinges married. Their daughter, Elisabeth d' Allinges, married 1592 André de Pesmes, member of a noble family of Franche- Comté, which was established in Geneva since the 14th century. It was only in 1711 succeeded François -Louis de Pesmes, the gentlemen to unite around the area of the castle. After his death in 1737 the castle passed into the possession of the de Mestral family.
