Metronit

Metronit (Hebrew מטרונית ) is a property under construction Busway system for the Greater Haifa, Israel. The aim of the project is the city of Haifa to operate on an additional axis with a high quality public transport. In addition, the northern suburbs, Krajot are called, which are currently served only by trains of Israel Railways and Egged buses developed. For use comes the Phileas Spurbustechnologie the Dutch VDL Group.

Technology

The Phileas concept, which will be used in Metronit, differs from conventional track buses. Although predominantly own bus lanes are used, but the tracking is done not mechanically, but by inductive guidance on sunken magnets. Although the use of trolleybuses would be possible in principle, has been chosen in the region of Haifa for hybrid buses. For use exclusively articulated buses are to come, including, completely new for Israel, Double articulated buses.

Concept

The city of Haifa is being developed at the present time only with regular buses and the only metro line Carmelite. For urban transport, this hardly plays a role. The vast majority of the traffic takes place today from along the coast and towards the Krajot. While on this relation, there is a railway line that due to the low driving frequency and the great distance hardly stops but is also suitable as an urban transport for shorter distances.

To the north of Haifa, in the Krajot, the former suburbs in recent decades have grown into a large contiguous urban area with around 250,000 inhabitants, with no recognizable center and without appropriate transport infrastructure. Kiryat Bialik about its approximately 40,000 residents and several large shopping centers is not accessible by the railroad and is operated by conventional buses.

The Metronit power to this lack of structure in Haifa and the Krajot remedy the situation and bring an ease road congestion. The name Metronit was chosen based on the Carmelite.

Line network

First phase of the project is the establishment of the so-called "heart network ", which comprises approximately 20 km of track. It starts in Bat Galim, where connection is made to the railway, leads east to Kikar Paris (Paris ), where a connection is made to the Carmelite, on to the central bus station of Krajot, Merkazit Mifratz, and from there into two branches above Kiryat Bialik Kiryat Motzkin to the station and after Kiryat Ata.
