Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority or MARTA also short is a large transport operation in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA. The MARTA operates a network of buses and rail transport. 1972 took over the bus network of Atlanta MARTA transit system, starting in 1979 drove the first trains on the former East Line (now the Blue Line). Up to the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, the rail network has been constantly expanding. Since October 2009, the line numbers no longer follow the geographical orientation, but the line color. There are four railway lines: the Blue Line (Indian Creek to EHHolmes, formerly the East -West Line), the Red Line ( Hartsfield- Jackson International Airport to North Springs, formerly the North - South Line ), Gold Line ( airport to Doraville, formerly South - North East Line ) and the Green Line ( Bankhead Edgewood / Candler Park, formerly the Proctor Creek Line). All lines intersect at the central station Five Points. The Gold Line branches off to the bus stop N6 Lindbergh Center on the RedLine; the Green Line leaves after the stop W3 Ashby the Blue Line. The operating times of the lines vary. After 20 clock ( or 21 clock on Sundays and public holidays) only to serve the Gold Line the entire section to the airport, the trains of the Red Line stop just to Lindbergh Center.

Since MARTA was built mainly for the purpose of causing car commuters to switch to the rail, the track layout strongly on the motorways I-285 ( beltway ), I-20, I- 75 and I -85 is aligned. At many stations there are free parking. Atlanta railway station, however, is not connected to the MARTA rail network.

Route, stops overview

The railway network of MARTA is often partly underground, ground level or on elevated railway viaducts, it has a length of 77 kilometers with 38 stations, each corresponding to the altitude of the plane of the rails. The routes are starting from the central station Five Points associated with each letter-number combination on a line, where the number indicates how many stops the station of Five Points is located. Five Points itself has no line assignment. Individual sections were installed in the course of Highways as " median strip ", so that no additional noise is created for residential areas.
