Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley

Knowsley is a metropolitan borough in the metropolitan county of Merseyside in England. Administrative center is the city of Huyton. For Borough, which is named after the village of Knowsley, also includes the villages of Halewood, Kirkby, Prescot and Whiston. The area is adjacent to Liverpool. It is twinned with Moers in Germany.

The reorganization of the limits and the capabilities of local authorities led in 1974 to form the Metropolitan Borough. Were fused while the urban districts of Huyton with Roby, Kirkby and Prescot, most of the Whiston Rural District and a small part of West Lancashire Rural District. These authorities previously belonged to the county of Lancashire.

1986 Knowsley was actually a Unitary Authority, as the central government dissolved the overall management of the county. Knowsley was for ceremonial purposes part of Merseyside, as well as for individual higher-level tasks such as police, fire and public transport.
