Metropolitan Borough of Solihull

Solihull is a metropolitan borough in the metropolitan county of West Midlands in England. Administrative center is the city of Solihull, just under half of the population lives. The district includes the cities beyond Balsall Common, Bickenhill, Castle Bromwich, Chelmsley Wood, Dorridge, Ford Bridge, Hockley Heath, Kingshurst, Marston Green, Shirley and Smith 's Wood and several other villages.

To the west and north of the district is bordered to Birmingham, to the east of Coventry, in the north and south Warwickshire, Worcestershire to the south. The eastern part of the district is predominantly rural.

History

1894, the Solihull Rural District was created in the county of Warwickshire, which included, in addition Solihull numerous villages in the neighborhood. In 1932, in the creation of Solihull Urban District, some rural areas were separated again. 1954 Queen Elizabeth II granted the status of a municipal borough Solihull, ten years later, the city was a county borough.

The reorganization of the limits and the capabilities of local authorities led in 1974 to form the Metropolitan Borough, through the merger of Solihull County Borough and most of the Meriden Rural District. 1986 Solihull was in fact a unitary authority, when the central government dissolved the superordinate management the county of West Midlands. Solihull remained for ceremonial purposes part of West Midlands, and also for individual higher-level tasks such as police, fire and public transport.

Facilities

In the area of the Metropolitan Boroughs is adjacent to the seventh largest exhibition center in Europe, the National Exhibition Centre and the associated NEC Arena, a large entertainment venue in the often held rock concerts, and the Birmingham Airport.
