Metsküla ( German Metsküll ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Lihula ( Lihula vald ) in Lääne.

Description and History

The village has 51 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located 19 kilometers northeast of the county town of Haapsalu.

The village was created in 1480. 1514 it is occupied records for the Jummellmark. In 1565 it was called sthor Degerskoo. 1798, it is listed as Stordirskog - Metkülla.

Boulders

To the west, south and east of the village extends a forest area. In the north Metsküla bordering the Bight of Matsalu ( Matsalu Laht ). There are two large boulders, called Näärikivid. They received their name by the same farm Nääri talu. The boulders and other stones are under state protection since 1937.

From the village core leads to the beach a nature trail to the boulders over to the west village Saastna on the peninsula ( Saastna pool saar ).

Dendrarium

In Metsküla is located on the farm Kaegi ( Kaegi talu ) an experimental arboretum from once 45 pear trees, of which forty are still preserved. They can grow up to twelve meters.
