The Mettelhorn is a 3'406 m above sea level. M. high peaks below the Zinalrothorns near Zermatt in the Valais Alps.
Due to its central location in the Matter Valley, steeply above Zermatt ( in the Southeast located ) and from Tasch ( in the northeast ) the Mettelhorn is a popular vantage point with panoramic views of the mountains around Zermatt valley: Matterhorn, Breithorn, Monte Rosa group, Mischabelgruppe, White Horn, Zinalrothorn, Obergabelhorn etc.
The normal ascent ( challenging mountain hike ) leads from Zermatt ( 1'608 m above sea level. M. ), by the drift valley over the Furggji Pass ( 3'166 m above sea level. M. ) and an upper snowfield of Hohlicht glacier ( columns) of southwest to the summit.
