Michael Allenby, 3rd Viscount Allenby

Lieutenant - Colonel Michael Jaffray Hynman Allenby, 3rd Viscount Allenby ( born April 20, 1931) is a British nobleman, politician, and military. He is a descendant of Edmund Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby.

Life and career

Allenby went to Eton to school and attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was later appointed Royal Hussars who were stationed in Malaya 1953-1956 to Lieutenant Colonel in the 11th Regiment of Hussars. From 1957 to 1958 he served as aide- de-camp to the Governor of Cyprus, 1967 to 1969, he was Brigade Major ( Chief of Staff ) at the 51st Brigade in Hong Kong from 1974 to 1977 he was commander of the United Association of the British Territorial Army ( territorial Army ) Royal Yeomanry.

After he had the title of Viscount Allenby of Megiddo and Felixstowe, Suffolk Co., got, he sits since 1984 as Cross Bencher ( non-party ) in the House of Lords. Lord Allenby was from 1997 to 1999 Deputy Speaker ( Deputy Speaker) of the House of Lords. As part of the House of Lords Act 1999, he was among those MPs who kept their seat.

He is a promoter of a British- Israeli society and promotes excavations at Megiddo, where his great-uncle won a battle in the First World War.

Edmund Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby, was a great-uncle of him.
