Michael Bates (American football)

Michael Bates (Michael Dion Bates ;) (born 19 December 1969) is a retired American sprinter who began a career in American football after his athletics career.

In 1992 he won at the Olympic Games in Barcelona bronze in the 200 meter race in 20.38 s behind Michael Marsh and Frank Fredericks.

The following year, he joined the National Football League ( NFL) and played for the Seattle Seahawks (1993 /94), the Cleveland Browns (1995), the Carolina Panthers (1996-2000, 2002), the Washington Redskins (2001 ) the Dallas Cowboys (2003) and the New York Jets ( 2003). In 2000 he was selected as the kick returner in the National Football League 1990s All- Decade Team.
