Michael E. Driscoll

Michael Edward Driscoll ( born February 9, 1851 in Syracuse, New York, † January 19, 1929 ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1913 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Michael Edward Driscoll was born about three years after the end of the Mexican-American War in Onondaga County. The family moved in 1852 by Camillus. He attended district schools and the Monro Collegiate Institute in Elbridge. In 1877, he graduated from Williams College in Williamstown (Massachusetts ). He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law in 1879, he began practicing in Syracuse in the same year. He was appointed as one of five commissioners, who designed a uniform charter for the Second Class Cities in New York. 1905 was followed by an appointment as Attorney by the State Superintendent of Insurance. He also belonged in 1905 to the group of the future President William Howard Taft, who visited the Philippines and the Asian countries. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. He had in 1906 presided over the Republican State Convention.

In the congressional elections of 1898 for the 56th Congress Driscoll was in the 27th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James J. Belden on March 4, 1899. He was re-elected once. In 1902 he stood as a candidate in the 29th electoral district of New York for the 58th Congress. After a successful election, he entered on March 4, 1903, the successor of Charles W. Gillet. He was re-elected four times in a row. In his renewed candidacy in 1912, he suffered a defeat and retired after March 3, 1913, the Congress of. During his time Congress he chaired the Committee on Elections No.. 3 ( 58th to 61st Congress ).

After his conference time he went back to his work as a lawyer after, traveled and lectured from his travels. He died on January 19, 1929 in Syracuse. His body was then buried in the Oakwood Cemetery.
