Michael Fitzpatrick (Kildare politician)

Michael Fitzpatrick ( born October 12, 1942 in Cootehill, County Cavan, † 14 October 2011) was an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ).

Life

Fitzpatrick grew up the second oldest of eight children in County Cavan. His family was there engaged in farming. He attended the National School Dernakesh and Cootehill Vocational School.

In 1961 he started in the Garda Síochána, the National Police of the Republic of Ireland to work. During his police career, he was in Robertstown, County Kildare, in Tullow, County Carlow and briefly stationed in Athy. During his time in Robertstown married Fitzpatrick. The marriage went forth a son. In 1972 he left the police force and was working as a manager for tourism projects in Robertstown. From the mid- 1970s to 1989, he then worked as a sales representative and insurance consultants. He then started his own business as an auctioneer and insurance consultants.

As of 1992, Fitzpatrick began to become active in politics. In the local elections in 1999 he was first elected for Fianna Fáil in the Kildare County Council. 2004, his re-election. During this period he held from 2003 to 2004 the office of Mayor of County Kildare. In May 2007, Fitzpatrick was elected in the constituency of Kildare North for his party in the 30th Dáil Éireann. The vacant seat in Kildare County Council took over in June, his son and party colleague Daragh Fitzpatrick, but could not hold him at the next municipal election in 2009. In March 2010, a motor neuron disease was diagnosed with Michael Fitzpatrick. Although this disease is Fitzpatrick decided to continue working as a deputy. In the elections of 31 Dáil Éireann in February 2011, however, he could not defend his seat. He died in October 2011 of complications from the disease.
