Michael McClune

Michael McClune ( born August 22, 1989 in Long Beach ) is an American tennis player. Since 2006 he plays as a professional player on the ATP Challenger Tour.

Junior time

At youth level McClune has won numerous tournaments and was in different years at one position in the world rankings. He was number one at the U12, U16 and U18 in the world.

Professional career

At the tournament in San Jose, in 2007, he played for the first time the qualifying rounds for an ATP tournament. He failed only in the third qualifying round of his compatriot Phillip King. After numerous unsuccessful Futures tournaments he ventured into Newport and Los Angeles two more times in the qualifying rounds for an ATP tournament, but he failed both times to qualify for the main round. This was followed by the U.S. Open, where he was awarded by the tournament, a wild card for the first time was in the main draw of an ATP tournament. He lost his match against Juan Ignacio Chela significantly in three sets. By the end of the year followed mainly more futures tournaments, where he won two tournaments and significantly improved in the tennis world rankings. He stood at the start year still in position 650, it was already the end of year position 421 addition was McClune in 2007, at the age of 18 years, in the final of the junior tournament, the Miami Masters. There he was defeated in three sets to the Japanese Kei Nishikori. In 2008, he also took the men's doubles for the first time at the U.S. Open in part. McClune currently lives in California. Previously, he was trained by Nick Fustar and supervised by the former professional tennis player Taylor Dent.
