Michael McMahon (Scottish politician)

Michael McMahon ( born September 18, 1961 in Bellshill ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

McMahon attended Our Lady's High School in Motherwell and then studied at Glasgow Caledonian University from social sciences and graduated with a bachelor's degree.

Political career

In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 McMahon stood as Labour candidate for the constituency of Hamilton North and Bellshill. Well ahead of the candidate of the SNP, he won the mandate and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the following elections in 2003 and 2007, he defended his position. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the constituency Hamilton North and Bellshill was dissolved. For this reason, McMahon came to the 2011 parliamentary elections for the newly created constituency Uddingston and Bellshill, have been merged into the large parts of the former constituency of. McMahon won the mandate by a narrow margin against the candidate of the SNP.
