Michael Palin

Michael Edward Palin CBE FRGS ( born May 5, 1943 in Sheffield, England ) is an English actor, writer, singer, travel journalist and former president of the Royal Geographical Society. He was a member of the Monty Python group, where he often took on roles that demanded exaggerated enthusiasm or imperturbable calm.

Life

After attending primary school in Birkdale and a boarding school in Shrewsbury Palin studied History at Brasenose College, Oxford. According to his own statements he had on primary school first experience with acting and appeared in a production of Charles Dickens ' A Christmas Carol on.

After the end of Monty Python's Flying Circus Palin worked with Terry Jones, whom he had met at Oxford University, first at the TV comedy series Ripping Yarns. He then held numerous roles in the following Monty Python movies and entered the early films of Terry Gilliam at ( Jabberwocky, Time Bandits, Brazil).

He played together with John Cleese in the hit comedy A Fish Called Wanda and the less successful sequel Fierce Creatures. His portrayal of stuttering Ken in A Fish Called Wanda earned him both a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor as well as criticism of stutterers, which led him to the " London Centre for Stammering Children" ( roughly: " London Centre for stuttering children " ) to establish, in part because his own father stuttered and was based on the role of Ken on it. Already in The Life of Brian, he played the role of Pontius Pilate with a speech impediment, which he impersonated by one of his former teachers.

A Passion by Michael Palin is traveling, what brought him to film some travel documentaries for the BBC. The success of the series in his home country is based in large part on his humorous comments and the unusual itineraries. After almost every release of a new documentation it also comes to the so-called "Palin effect", an increase of interest in the region by the British public.

Palin tries to play Hemingway 's Chair (1999) and The Truth (2012 ) also twice as a novelist. He wrote the screenplay for American girlfriends and played the lead role. The plot of the film is based on the day of travel books his great-grandfather Edward Palin, the fellow at the University of Oxford was, and it left in 1866 out of love for a 19 -years-younger Irish-American girl.

Michael Palin is married to Helen Gibbins since 1966 and has three children.

On 1 January 2000, he was appointed by the Queen Elizabeth II for " Commander of the Order of the British Empire ( CBE) ".

From 2009 to 2012 Palin exercised the office of President of the Royal Geographical Society, he was previously associated for many years in various capacities.
