Michael Rieser

Michael Rieser ( born September 5, 1828 in Schlitters, Tyrol, † November 9, 1905 in Vienna) was an Austrian painter.

He studied at the Gdansk School of Art and then from 1848 to 1850 at the Academy in Munich with Christian Ruben. From 1861 he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.

After a long stay in Rome (1861-1864), he returned to Vienna, where he from 1868 to 1888 as a professor at the Imperial Arts and Crafts School of k.k. Austrian Museum for Art and Industry worked. His students included well-known painters such as Gustav Klimt and Franz Matsch.

  • Four altarpieces for the church in the Bohemian Kladrub (on behalf of Prince Alois of Liechtenstein )
  • Altarpiece of St. Anne for the parish church in Schlitters
  • Altarpiece " The Holy Family " for the hospital church in Trier
  • 1880: Mosaic in the high altar of the Scots Church in Vienna
