Michael Sam

Alan Michael Sam, Jr. ( born January 7, 1990 in Houston, Texas) is an American professional American football player at the position of the defensive ends. He played college football from 2009 to 2013 for the Missouri Tigers, the University of Missouri. There he was elected in 2013 to the All- American and Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year ( Defender of the Year ).

With his team he won in the 2013 season twelve games with only two defeats. On January 3, 2014 followed in his last game for the Tigers a 41:31 victory in the Cotton Bowl against the Cowboys of Oklahoma State University. Oklahoma was one minute before the end only three points back and was only 27 yards from the end zone the Tigers ( a field goal would have put the balance ), as Michael Sam forced a fumble with a sack of his team-mate Shane Ray 73 yards to victory sure touchdown was carried back.

On February 10, 2014 he declared to be gay. His outing sparked extensive media coverage. Sam will attend the NFL Draft 2014. He was only predicted by his outing a late election in one of the last rounds. Should Sam be selected, it would be the first openly gay, active professional in the National Football League ( NFL).
