Michael Truman

Michael Truman ( born February 25, 1916 in Bristol as Michael Claude Derek Truman, † July 11, 1972 in Newbury, Berkshire ) was a British film director, film producer and editor. He directed in the 1950s and 1960s, several movies, including The Other Half, thieves have right of way and alibi of death.

Life and career

Michael Truman, born 1916 in Bristol, worked after his studies at London University in 1937 first as a freelance cutter later from 1944 to 1949 for the Ealing Studios as an editor on such films as pharmacist Sutton, Bedelia, King Love blockade in London or fight for money before he was working as a film producer at the beginning of the 1950s. From 1955 on, he worked primarily as a director then, first for the big screen, in the 1960s for British television.

His debut as a film director, he was the mid-1950s with the comedy My better half, in which starred Jack Hawkins, Margaret Johnston and June Thorburn. In 1962, under his direction with thieves have right another British comedy in the occupation of Dave King, Robert Morley and Daniel Massey. 1963 turned Michael Truman with Ian Hendry and Ronald Fraser in the two male leads the thriller Alibi of death.

Besides his work for the cinema emerged after 1960, various episodes for British television. Among 5 episodes for the popular television series secret mission for John Drake with actor Patrick McGoohan, the other two episodes of the series Simon Templar agents with Roger Moore and 10 episodes for the secret agent series.

On July 11, 1972 Michael Truman died in Newbury, in the county of Berkshire at the age of 56 years.
