Michalis Kapsis

Michalis Kapsis (Greek Μιχάλης Καψής, born October 18, 1973 in Athens ) is a former Greek football player.

Career

He played some impressive games for Aris Nikea and Anagennisi Artas in the early 90s, before he in his first season there (1993 /94) helped Ethnikos Piraeus, to be counted among the top clubs in Greece. The success had no negative impact on Kapsis ' game, he came 30 times to use - most inserts his career. In his 123 games for Ethnikos Piraeus, he scored only one goal. He changed during the season 1998/99 AEK Athens.

In 1999, he was still 15 times for AEK to use and has been in the two seasons following regulars. 2001/ 02 he was a dispute on the training pitch with goalkeeper Elias Atmatsidis, whereupon AEK in the following decisive weeks gave the championship to Olympiakos.

2002/ 03 he played six times for AEK in the UEFA Champions League and 20 times in the Alpha Ethniki. Kapsis was one of the few who constantly brought their performance, as AEK in the 2003/04 season disappointingly, was only fifth.

Good performances for AEK Athens brought Kapsis a nomination in the squad of the Greek national team qualifying for the European Championship 2004 for the crucial matches against Spain and the Ukraine; he covered in these two victories excellent Raúl and Andriy Shevchenko. He was also always present, when Greece became European Champion in 2004 in the euro, and remained a regular in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2006

After Euro 2004, he left AEK and signed a contract with Bordeaux. He completed 29 league games, but then returned to Greece and signed a two year contract with the champions Olympiakos. In January 2007, he joined APOEL Nicosia, where he won the championship in the same year.

Family

His father Anthimos Kapsis played for Panathinaikos in the 1971 European Champion Clubs' Cup final, which was lost 2-0 against Ajax Amsterdam. He also starred in Greece first European championship is 1980 on pitch.
