Michel Camdessus

Michel Camdessus ( born May 1, 1933, Bayonne ) is a French economist and Honorary Governor of the Banque de France.

Life

After a degree in economics from the University of Paris Camdessus completed studies at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) and ENA in Strasbourg. One of his first stops was Brussels, where he was from 1966 to 1968 Employees of the French Permanent Representation to the European Union. Then Camdessus began a career in the French Ministry of Finance. From 1978 to 1984 he served as president of the Paris Club. 1984 Camdessus was Governor of the Banque de France and retained the post until 1987, when he was appointed director of the International Monetary Fund. His first five -year mandate was renewed twice, before he stepped down on 14 February 2000.

Camdessus is the father of six children and a practicing Catholic. He is committed to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the scientific advisory board of the Papal Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice ( CAPP ), the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Navarre, the board of the French Institute for International Relations ( IFRI ) and the Haut Conseil de la francophonie. From 2000 to 2007 he was president of the Social Weeks in France ( Semaines sociales de France).
