Mick Rogers (musician)

Mick Rogers ( born September 20, 1946 in Dovercourt, Essex, England as Michael Oldroyd ) is an English guitarist. He achieved fame primarily for his work with Manfred Mann's Earth Band ( MMEB ), which he founded in 1971 together with Manfred Mann, Chris Slade and Colin Pattenden.

Career Overview

Career start

Rogers first played bass, but then switched to guitar. Getting professional engagements as a musician, he has the mid-sixties with Adam Faith, Gene Pitney and Normie Rowe & The Playboys in Australia. From 1967 he is a member of the band Procession that in England a progressive album on Popbasis receives 1968 with strong jazz influences, which is produced by Mike Hugg. However, Procession separated again in 1969 and Rogers returned briefly back to Australia. There he formed a blues trio with the name Bulldog, before returning to London in late 1970 to become a founding member of MMEB.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band 1971-1975

In 1971 Mick Rogers published together with the MMEB in regular and frequent sequence albums. At first it is still clearly felt that the band is still looking for their own style. From 1973 (not included on the album ), the fourth album Solar Fire and the previous single Joybringer first commercial success raises a. Both publications are inspired by Gustav Holst's The Planets work. This is followed by two more albums, but leaves the big commercial success coming. The live concerts, however, are always the real factor that draws the listener into the spell and the band provides a wide fan base. 1975 but Rogers has a hard time in the band because he thinks he can unfold there not full. Through his association of MMEB to the record company Bronze but an entry Uriah Heep is offered to him, which are published by the same company. Rogers decides after a few weeks trial against Uriah Heep and establishes instead with Clive Bunker (ex Jethro Tull ), Jack Lancaster and John G. Manfred Mann's Earth Band 1983 - today

After MMEB Tour 1983, the guitarist Steve Waller gets out there and Mick Rogers takes his place. Here are two additional MMEB albums on which Rogers is involved. The declining success in time without Rogers commercially very successful, however, in 1988 MMEB leads to the fact that the band Manfred Mann dissolves first. Beginning of 1991 reformed man again the band and also Rogers is again with us. The band focuses on the traditionally strong live work and touring steadily through Europe with an emphasis in Germany. 1996 also returns a studio album titled Soft Vengeance of the following tour and a live album (1998).
