Nansenia groenlandica

The Microstomatidae (Greek micros, small ', stoma, mouth ') are a family of Gold -like salmon ( Argentiniformes ). The in English as " pencil smelts " (Pencil smelts ) designated pelagic fish live in the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, especially in tropical and subtropical regions.

Features

The 8.5 to 26.5 inches long expectant fish are elongated, usually dark in color and have in most cases, large eyes and small mouths. It is characteristic that the eyes have twice the diameter of foot length. The Postcleithra, a bone in the shoulder girdle is present, the Mesocoracoid missing. The fins are without hard jets, the dorsal fin well behind the center of the body. An adipose fin may be present or absent. The pectoral fins sit sideways. The fish have 41 to 50 vertebrae and 3-4 gill Reuse rays. The lateral line organ and the accompanying scales extend up to the tail.

  • Fins formula: Dorsal 9-12, 7-10 anal, pectoral 7-14, 8-12 Ventral.
