Mikhail Alperin

Mikhail Efimovich Alperin (Russian: Михаил Ефимович Альперин, also Миша Альперин Misha Alperin, born November 7, 1956 in Kamjanez - Podilskyj, USSR (now Ukraine) ) is a jazz pianist (sometimes Melodicaspieler ), or under the name of Mikhail Alperin. Misha Alperin is known.

Life and work

Alperin grew up in Bessarabia and completed until 1976 classical piano studies. Since 1977 he has worked as a freelance arranger, composer and musician, and in 1980 he founded with Simon Shirman one of the first Moldavian jazz bands, a quartet that the combination of jazz and folk elements devoted himself.

In Moscow, he met the horn players of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the Bolshoi Theatre Arkady Shilkloper, with whom he the internationally acclaimed album Waves of Sorrow grossed 1989. Later came to the duo of singer and clarinet player Sergey Starostin added, and the formation under the name Moscow Art Trio recorded several albums and performed at international festivals.

Since 1993, Alperin lives in Norway, where he teaches piano at the Music Academy of Oslo. In 1995 he arranged the pieces in Sofia for a concert with the Bulgarian choir Angelite, Huun - Huur the South Siberian ensemble -Tu and the Russian singer Sergei Starostin.

Alperin composed works for children's choir and chamber orchestra, a jazz ballet and a concerto for flugelhorn, piano and orchestra.
