Milan Mladenović

Milan Mladenovic (Cyrillic: Милан Младеновић; born September 21, 1958, † November 5, 1994 ) was a rock musician in the former Yugoslavia, known as the frontman of art-rock band Ekatarina Velika ( EKV ). He was a great rock poet for a whole generation.

Life

Mladenovic was born in Zagreb, where his father was an officer in the Yugoslav People's Army. When he was six years old, the family moved to Sarajevo in 1970 to Belgrade.

Musical Career

Limunovo Drvo and Sarlo akrobata

His first band he formed with his school friend Gagi Mihajlovic; it was called Limunovo drvo (lemon tree). Later the name was changed to Sarlo akrobata. The musical influences Mladenovićs at that time were Elvis Costello, Paul Weller and Andy Partridge of XTC.

Katarina II and Ekatarina Velika

In 1981, Mladenovic founded with his bandmates Limunovo drvo the band Catherine II in 1982 came Margita Stefanović as keyboardist added, and Bojan Pečar as bassist and Ivan Vdović Vd. Due to a name dispute, the band was renamed Ekatarina Velika 1985.

1992 Mladenovic joined with other Serbian musicians to Rimtutituki, an anti- war project together. In the spring of 1994, he took in Brazil with his old friend Mitar Subotic on the album Angel's Breath.

Death

In August 1994, a pancreatic carcinoma was diagnosed in Mladenovic. He died on 5 November in Belgrade.
