Military Emergencies Unit

The Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME ) (Spanish for: Military Emergency Unit) is part of the Spanish armed forces. In her serve around 4,000 professional soldiers.

Order

Goal and mission of the unit, it is quickly and effectively intervene in Spain in ( natural) disasters or similar situations where there is a threat to public safety and order. The members of the unit are specially trained for rescue operations, especially in the medical service, in use to fight forest fires, floods, landslides, avalanches, or during disasters technical and biological- medical nature, such as Chemical accidents or epidemics. The legal basis for establishing the UME is the agreement of the Spanish Council of Ministers of 7 October 2005.
