Miloslav Hořava

Miloslav Hořava senior ( born August 14, 1961 in Kladno, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach, who in 2010 was head coach of MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik last from April 2009 to January. His son Miloslav Hořava junior is also a professional hockey player.

Career as a player

Miloslav Hořava began his career in junior Poldi Kladno from, for he held until 1983 in the top division of Czechoslovakia, the first league played. In 1981 the defender with Poldi Czechoslovakian champion. In the same year he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft in 1981 in the ninth round by the Edmonton Oilers at 176th place. Between 1983 and 1986 he played during his army service for Dukla Jihlava ASD, with whom he won the championship again in 1984 and 1985. He then returned to Poldi Kladno. In 1988 he received permission to move to the non-communist countries. As the New York Rangers had received the NHL rights to Hořava of the Edmonton Oilers, the Rangers took him under contract. For the Rangers, he completed 82 NHL games in three seasons, before returning to Europe in 1991 and MODO Hockey joined from Sweden. In the following three years he played for MODO in the Elitserien.

In 1994 he decided to return to his homeland and played in the next three years for the HC Slavia Prague in the Extraliga. Further stations of his long career were the HC Becherovka Karlovy Vary, the HKm Zvolen and HC Litvinov, where he ended his career at the end of the season 1999 /2000.

Internationally

Miloslav Hořava took for Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic in four Winter Olympic Games, six World Championships and three Canada Cups in part. Among his greatest successes was the world champion title in 1985 and winning the Olympic silver medal in 1984.

Career as a coach

Since 2001 Hořava works as a trainer in the Czech Extraliga. He oversaw the HC Kladno, the HC Orli Znojemští, the HC Moeller Pardubice, HC Karlovy Vary and the BK Mladá Boleslav. Middle of the season 2004/ 05 he returned to HC Orli Znojemští and remained there until the end of the season 2006/07. Middle of the season 2007/ 08 he took over as coach at HC Lasselsberger Plzeň. Between 2008 and 2009, was also head coach of HC Slovan Ustecti Lvi and the U20 national team of the Czech Republic.

On 16 April 2009 he signed a two year contract with MODO Hockey of the Swedish Elitserien, for whom he already completed three seasons as a player. In January 2010 Hořava resigned for personal reasons from his post and returned to the Czech Republic.

In July 2010, he was introduced as head coach of the new KHL participant HC Lev Poprad, which, however, the operation of gambling did not take up.
