Minatare is a village in Scotts Bluff County in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, Minatare has a population of 810, including 405 women and 405 men.

History

The name is derived from the Minatare Minnataree Indians, a sub-tribe of the Sioux. It means as much as " clear water ". In 1885, George W. Fairfield opened a "land locator 's office" near Sidney ( Nebraska) to document the development of the new country. The place should be called Tabor originally. Already in the founding year 1887 was the Minatare Canal & Irrigation Company, an organization founded to ensure the irrigation. 1926 a sugar factory was founded, which boosted the economy. With its closure in 1948, however, Minatare lost again to prosperity. Even today, agricultural products such as corn, sugar beets and livestock, the main industry in the town.
