The Mombu - Kagaku - shō (Japanese文 部 科学 省, dt " Culture and the Ministry of Science ", abbreviated文科 省, Monkashō; engl Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology MEXT, abbreviated; . The MEXT originated in the restructuring of the Japanese ministries in January 2001 from the merger of Mombu - shō (文部省, " Ministry of Culture "; engl Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, often only the Ministry of Education. ) And the " Office of Science and Technology " (科学 技术 庁, Kagaku Gijutsu - -chō, Eng. History

The precursor Ministry of MEXT, the Mombu - shō, played before the end of the Pacific War, in addition to the Ministry of the Interior a central role in the spread of State Shinto. It was also responsible for the education system and thus for the nationalist education during the reign of the Taisei Yokusankai in World War II.
