Minna Kauppi

Minna -Mari Kauppi ( born November 25, 1982 in Asikkala, Päijät -Häme ) is a Finnish orienteer and nine -time World Champion. Kauppi starts for the club Asikkalan Raikas but lives in Jyväskylä.

Minna Kauppi part with eight gold and three silver and bronze medals (as after the World Cup 2011) at the World Championships the most successful orienteers their time. Since 2004, she has won at least one medal at each of the discharged annually world championships.

Kauppi's talent for orienteering was recognized early. 2001 and 2002 the Finnish wwurde hope each junior world champion on the middle distance. A year later she played her first World Championships in Rapperswil. With eighth place in the sprint and eleventh place on the middle distance she managed a respectable debut. Minna Kauppi missed in 2004 at the European Championships in fourth place over the middle distance just short of the podium at the world championships in the same year in Sweden, she was fifth and sixth and won with the Finnish relay silver. The following year, finally showed their strength on the middle distance with medal successes: She won on the track the Nordic Championship and won behind Simone Niggli -Luder from Switzerland and the Swedish Jenny Johansson bronze at the World Championships and so her first individual medal at an international championship.

In 2006 she succeeded then finally the breakthrough: In Otepaeae she became European champion in the middle distance and with the squadron, with which it also the first time world champion was a little later. The Best World Cup 2007 she defended with Paula Haapakoski and Heli Jukkola. They also won at the same time with Heli Jukkola gold on the long- distance, sprint, they only had to concede defeat Simone Niggli -Luder. 2008 Kauppi won two bronze medals at the European Championships in Ventspils, at the World Championships in the Czech Olomouc she won as the year before two gold medals and one silver medal, including a gold medal in the relay, in which they started with Katri Lindeqvist and Merja Rantanen and the third the Season titles due for Finland meant.

For the first time no international titles won Minna Kauppi 2009. Hungary, she was third at the World Championships on the long distance behind Niggli -Luder and Marianne Andersen from Norway and third in the relay, so that the winning streak of the Finnish women broke after three years. Already in 2010 but succeeded in the Finnish Women's Anni- Maija Fincke Trio, Merja Rantanen and Kauppi again winning the title. About the middle distance Kauppi 2010 was also able to conquer their Dauerkontrahentin Niggli -Luder. 2011, they missed on their parade route, the middle distance, just a medal. With Fincke and Rantanen she succeeded for the title defense in the relay.

With their team Asikkalan Raikas Kauppi 2007 won the Venla orienteering on the anchor leg. Minna Kauppi was also able to win so far (as of end of 2009 season ) eight World Cup: five in the middle distance, four in the long distance and a sprint.

The Finnish Post published on 26 March 2010 a stamp with Minna Kauppi as a motive. Kauppi has an older brother ( Jussi -Pekka ) and an older sister ( Rina ). She is romantically involved with the Finnish orienteers Pasi icons.
