Minuscule 4

Minuscule 4 ( in the Gregory- Aland numbering ), ε 371 ( von Soden ), is a Greek Minuskelhandschrift of the New Testament on 212 parchment leaves ( 18.5 x 14.3 cm). Using palaeography was dated the manuscript to the 13th century. It was originally called the Codex Regius 84. The Code is currently in the Bibliothèque nationale de France ( Gr. 84) in Paris.

Description

The Code contains almost the complete text of the four Gospels with four lacunae (Matt. 2:9-20; Mar 15:42 to 16:14; Joh 1:1-13.49-3:11 ). He was stichometrisch written in one column per page with 26-28 lines per page. It also contains a Synaxarium, martyrology, stichoi and excerpts of some Church Fathers. The text of John 7:53 to 8:11 is marked with a Obelus.

History of the Code

The code was used by Erasmus in his edition of Novum Testamentum. Robert Estienne used it in his Editio Regia ( 1550) and referred to him with γ '. John Mill noticed the reference to the Latin version and the Complutenser polyglot.
