Mircea Snegur

Mircea Snegur Ion (born 17 January 1940 in Trifăneşti ) is a Moldovan politician.

Mircea Snegur ion studied at the Agricultural Institute in Chisinau. In 1964 he became a member of the Communist Party of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. As an agricultural engineer, he worked on various state and collective farms of the Moldavian SSR. In the second half was Snegur member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Moldavian Communist Party and later Secretary General of the Supreme Soviet of Moldova. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he was the first president of the newly independent Republic of Moldova. In 1997, he was replaced by Petru Lucinschi.
