Miriam Gauci

Miriam Gauci ( born April 3, 1959 according to other sources: 1963, in Vittoriosa, Malta ) is a Maltese opera singer.

Life and work

The soprano Miriam Gauci studied first with her ​​aunt, the soprano Hilda Tabone, then moved to Lia Guarini at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, Italy, and completed her studies at the Centro finally Perfezionamento Lirici Artisti del Teatro Alla Scala di Milano successfully. After winning several competitions, she completed her stage debut in 1984 in Bologna in Poulenc 's La Voix Humaine.

She has worked with conductors such as Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Silvio Varviso, Zubin Mehta, Georges Prêtre, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado and Wolfgang Sawallisch.

In 1993, she was awarded by the President Vincent Tabone of the Maltese Order of Merit. She is married to the originating also from Malta conductor and pianist Michael Laus and has a daughter.

Gauci is considered the leading Puccini interpreter of her generation.
