Missisquoi River

The Missisquoi River ( Québec Rivière Missisquoi ) is a river in Vermont in the United States and the Canadian province of Québec.

It rises with its southern arm near Lowell and runs in an approximate north -west direction through the valleys of the Green Mountains in the direction of Lake Champlain, where it forms an estuary with multiple arms. The bay in which the Missisquoi River flows, was named after him Missisquoi Bay.

In the river course of the Missisquoi River at North Troy crossed the border into Canada, where he is at high water with the northern reaches of the river, the Rivière Missisquoi Nord, united. On the Canadian side of the river about 24 km length is substantially parallel to the border with the United States before moving back to American territory in Richford. The river then passes through several Towns and settlements in which he rushes to the part about waterfalls that were used in the early phase of industrialization of the area by mills.

Shortly after Swanton, the river branches into several arms, with which it forms an estuary into Lake Champlain into it. This river delta is protected by a nature reserve, the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge. It belongs to a series of protected areas that serve migratory birds between the Atlantic coast and the Great Lakes as resting places.

The river has no significance as a waterway. Only as a tourist attraction offered on the river canoeing. Furthermore, the water is considered to be a magnet for anglers.
