Mithridates IV of Pontus

Mithridates IV Philopator Philadelphus was the sixth king of Pontus and reigned from about 160 /155 to about 152/151 BC

Life

Mithridates IV was a son of Mithridates III. of Pontus and followed 160-155 BC his brother Pharnakes I. to the throne. He was married to his sister Laodice, minted their common portraits on coins and lay the epithet Philadelphus ( = sister lover ) to whom he also performs on his coins as the cognomen Philopator ( = father lover ). With Rome, he formed an alliance and therefore sent in winter 155/154 BC, King Attalus II of Pergamum auxiliary troops for his fight against Prusias II of Bithynia. More about his administration is not known.
