Geography

Geographical Location

Modautal is located in front of the Odenwald about 15 km southeast of Darmstadt and is partially drained by the River Vltava. The highest elevation is the Neunkircher height ( 605 m), where the River Vltava springs.

Neighboring communities

Modautal bordered to the north by the town of Ober-Ramstadt, on the northeast by the city of Groß-Bieberau, in the east on the community Fischbachtal, in the southeast of the city Linde Rock, on the south by the municipality Lauter (both circular mountain road ), on the west by the community Seeheim- Jugenheim, and on the northwest by the municipality of Mill Valley.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Modautal Allertshofen, Asbach, Brandau ( council offices ), Ernsthofen, Herchenrode, Hoxhohl, small Bieberau, Lützelbach, Neunkirchen, Neutsch and Webern.

History

Incorporations

The community Modautal was first formed on 1 April 1971 only from the previous towns Allertshofen and Hoxhohl.

On December 31, 1971 Lützelbach and nine churches were incorporated to Brandau and Herchenrode after Ernsthofen.

On January 1, 1977, then formed the church today Modautal as part of the municipal reform in Hesse from Asbach, Brandau, Ernsthofen, small Bieberau, Modautal and Neutsch.

Policy

Mayor

The acting mayor until 2006 Klaus Peter Schell Haas took effect on 1 January 2007, the successor of Celine Fries first district councilor of the district of Darmstadt- Dieburg. The choice of his successor won Jörg Lautenschlager ( CDU).

The municipal election held 27 March 2011 yielded the following results:

Traffic

In the community there is a Modautal gutvertaktetes bus network which connects the various hamlets with each other and with Darmstadt.

A special feature of the village is partly belonging to two transport associations. The municipality is located in fare zone 3910 of the Rhine -Main Transport Association (RMV ) and in the Tarifwabe 16 of the transport association Rhein- Neckar ( VRN). The RMV tariff is the application by default, while the VRN tariff for tours to VRN area is considered. Modautal is the only municipality in the district of Darmstadt- Dieburg in which the VRN- tariff is fully applicable without special transitional arrangements on all lines within the municipal area.

Attractions

The Emperor tower ( however, already situated on Gadernheimer district in the county mountain road lookout tower ) on the Neunkircher height of 605 m highest point in the Hessian Odenwald. From here you can enjoy, provided sun and clear view, a magnificent view of the whole Hessian Ried and the northern part of the Upper Rhine Valley and across the Rhine into the Palatinate hills.

Structures

Castle Ernsthofen

The origins of the castle Ernsthofen are up in the 8/9 Century go back. The former courtyard of the seriousness which was extended to the castle is said to have been eponymous for the place Ernsthofen. Documented the castle Ernsthofen is first mentioned in 1440, when the Lords of Raven Hold Ernsthofen to sell the castle to Hans IV of Wallbrunn to low -Ramstadt. In the 15th - 17th Century, it will be expanded by the Lords of Wallbrunn, whose seat was the castle until 1722, the castle more and more lost its purpose as a dam and so was the castle Ernsthofen. In the 17th and 18th centuries the castle Landgrave hunting parties repeatedly served as a base. The castle is privately owned and therefore not open to visitors.

Hottenbacher yard

The Hottenbacher Court is a historic Hofgut in small -Bieberau whose documentary first mention dates back to the 14th century and is today used ( except for a time during the Thirty Years War).

The Hottenbacher court, however, belongs to the municipality Fischbachtal and is located on the district, he's transport network is only accessible via the community Modautal and therefore assigned to post there as well.
