Modgarby

Modgarby ( German Modgarben ) is a village in Poland in the Warmia and Mazury, community Barciany. Modgarby is a mayor's office ( sołectwo ) to which today are no other villages.

Geography

Geographical location

The village is located about ten kilometers south of the Polish border with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast.

History

The farming village was located in 1339. The counting of the settlement area was nine Wloka. 15 or hooves. The Grand Master of the Teutonic Order Dietrich von Altenburg had Nicolaus Brunsereyte awarded this area. In 1808 there were in the village primary school which was attended by 20 students in 1827 there were 42 mid-19th century was a Mr. Klapper owner of the goods. This could probably build the manor, but this could probably not hold economically and filed for bankruptcy. End of the 19th century the Counts Egloff stone Sillginnen took over the estate, but gave it an early 20th century again. In the 1920s, a Mr. Hasword was the owner. At the end of the Second World War, the Red Army occupied the area and as a result the village was part of Poland. In 1970 there was a eight-year school as well as a cinema room with 40 seats in Modgarby. 1973, after the dissolution of the Gromadas, Modgarby seat of a Schulz Office ( sołectwo ) to which was included the villages Anielin, Bogusławki and Kolwiny. By 1977 Modgarby was part of the community Skandawa, since the village is part of the municipality Barciany. In the 1970s, the porch of the manor house was replaced by a concrete parapet. Until 1998 was Modgarby part of the Province of Olsztyn, then part of the newly formed Province of Warmia and Mazury.

Population Development

In 1785 there were in Modgarben 17 residential buildings. In the year together 69 inhabitants were counted in good and in the village. In May 1939, there were 307 people. After the village became part of the People's Republic of Poland, lived here 1970 307 people.

About three kilometers south of the province Modgarby road runs 590 ( droga wojewódzka 590) which leads to a side road.

Immediately north-west run of Modgarby railroad tracks, its own rail connection with a regular train service has not the village but. Nearest railway station is the city which is Korsze about ten kilometers to the southwest. There are direct flights to Olsztyn and Poznan.

The nearest international airport is Kaliningrad, which is about 80 kilometers north-west is located on Russian territory. The nearest international airport on Polish territory is located about 180 kilometers west of Lech Walesa Airport, Gdansk.
