Modlany

Modlany ( German Modlan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located four kilometers east of the center of Teplice and belongs to Okres Teplice.

Geography

Modlany located at Modlanský creek in the North Bohemian Basin. The place is surrounded by several pits in the lignite mining, including the ponds Kateřina the north and Modlany on the western outskirts. Southwest of the Doubravská hora rises ( Schlossberg, 393 m) and in the southeastern Věšťanský vrch ( Wesche mountain, 323 m).

Neighboring towns are Soběchleby in the north, Chabařovice in the northeast, Roudníky in the east, and Věšťany Kvítkov in the south, Drahkov the southwest, Staré Srbice and Trnovany in the west and Nové Srbice and Nové Modlany in the northwest. The northeastern neighbor Zalužany ( Senseln ) fell victim to the lignite mine.

History

Modlany was first documented in 1328 as the property of Otto von Bergow on the vultures castle. Since 1352 a parish church is detectable. After the castle in the first half of the 16th was abandoned Modlany came to Gutsherrschaft Soběchleby. 1584 sold Albrecht Kekulé Mariaschein including Soběchleby to George Popel of Lobkowicz. Basic settlement units are Drahkov, Kvítkov, Modlany, Suché, Věšťany and Žichlice ( Schichlitz ). The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Kvítkov u Modlan, Modlany, Suché, Věšťany and Žichlice u Modlan.
