The Modul University Vienna ( MU Vienna short ) is a 2007 by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, supported by the Vienna Tourist Board and the Vienna City Administration and other private university in Vienna opened with English working language. Its registered office is located on the Kahlenberg in Vienna's 19th district, Dobling. The MU Vienna is ( as of December 2012) is one of four private universities in Vienna.

History

Founder

The University was supported by the Vienna Economic Chamber (90 %) and the Foundation of the Saudi- Austrian businessman Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber initiated ( 10%) and built with the support of the City of Vienna and the Vienna Tourist Board. The aim of the founder was, students internationally oriented, hands-on ( post-graduate ) studies in the areas of Tourism Research, Information Technology and Public Administration ( " Public Governance " ) to make and to use the active role of Vienna in the European urban tourism. The founding president Karl Wöber was appointed, who had previously taught at the Vienna University of Economics in tourism science and research, and addresses in particular the urban tourism.

Around the year 2010 showed that co-founder Al Jaber promises he had made to finance the private university, some could not fulfill. The loss was compensated by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce; Al Jaber has resigned from the operating company.

Name

The name " module " is used by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce since 1975 for its tourism schools, which are also located in the 19th district and are structurally combined with the eponymous hotel. The name of the module goes back to the honeycomb principle according to which the internal space structure of the octagon - shaped building for hotel and school was designed from 1973 to 1975.

The former technical school for the hotel, restaurant owner and coffee boiler industry, later called the hotel school, today Higher School of Tourism, which is concluded with a trade Matura, was founded in 1908 and describes itself as the second oldest tourism school in the world. The management team of the Tourism Schools module was commissioned by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce in 2004 to design the Modul University Vienna.

Location

The years of neglect of the Kahlenberg, one in earlier decades touristy heavily used, but at last in its infrastructure hardly more attractive view point, led to criticism of the city government. For them, therefore, was also important that this exposed place could be put to good use again with the siting of the Modul University Vienna. Admission

The MU Vienna was by the Austrian Accreditation Council, who conducted the official recognition of private universities on behalf of the Ministry of Science, 30 July 2007, registered as a private university, initially limited to five years and started its operation in the winter semester 2007/2008.

Since 2011, the government recognition of private universities by the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ Austria ) is regulated on the basis of the higher education quality assurance Act ( HS -QSG ) as part of a fundamental redesign of the system of external quality assurance in Austria with 1 March was founded in 2011. In accordance with the statutory mandate AQ Austria is responsible for the entire higher education ( with the exception of Teacher Education ) in Austria.

Sustainability

The MU Vienna has its own claims to bring the sustainability as one of its basic principles. This should be part of the curriculum and the research and the objectives are taken according to the daily workflow visible. Bodies

The MU Vienna is governed by a three-member Board of Directors ( "Board " ): the President, the Vice President and the Managing Director. The University ( " University Council" ), which supports the development of MU Vienna, consists of seven representatives of the owner; as associate members are President and CEO at the meetings. The University Assembly ( " University Assembly" ) consists of all faculty members, current two representatives of external lecturer and four students and advises chaired by the President. Courses of Study
