Moisey Markov

Moiseja Aleksandrovich Markov (Russian Моисей Александрович Марков, English transcription Moisey Alexandrovich Markov, born May 13, 1908 in Rasskasowo; † November 1, 1994 in Moscow) was a Russian theoretical physicist.

Markov studied at the Moscow State University with the degree in 1930 and was from 1934 at the Lebedev Institute. 1956 to 1962 he directed the Laboratory for Neutrino Physics at JINR in Dubna. He was one of the founders of the Institute for Nuclear Research ( INR) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was in the Council and the Council of JINR.

He dealt with elementary particle physics and nuclear physics, and later philosophy and writing activities.

In 1940 he developed a non-local field theory, not replace each other in the fields and coordinates. In 1953, he developed a model of composite hadrons and thus said 1955 hadron resonances advance.

In the 1960s, there were theories that elementary particles are composed of heavier particles, which in turn made of heavier particles and so on, with lighter masses of the bound systems arise due to the relativistic mass defect of the strongly interacting elementary particles. Markow argued that there should be in this case due to the gravitational collapse of maximum mass particles, which he called " Maxim Onen ". Conversely, he saw a connection between the micro world and cosmology in the idea of " Friedmonen " universes behave like elementary particles, when due to the gravitational interaction, such a high mass defect occurs that their total mass is very small.

In 1963 he suggested that the elastic scattering cross section of lepton - nucleon scattering at high energies of the scattering can be described at point centers, an anticipation of the parton concept that was introduced in the late 1960s by Richard Feynman.

In 1960 he proposed the development of underwater neutrino telescopes before (realized in Lake Baikal in the Soviet Union later) and in the late 1950s by underground Neutrinoobservatorien. In 1970 he initiated the construction of the first neutrino observatory in the Soviet Union at Baksan in the Caucasus.

He was correspondent since 1953 and since 1966 Full Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and was from 1968 to 1988 secretary of the Department of Nuclear Physics. He was Hero of Socialist Labor and Lenin received three medals.

1973 to 1987 he was chairman of the Russian Pugwash Committee.

According to him, the Markov price of INR is named.
