Rasskazovo

Rasskasowo (Russian Рассказово ) is a town in Tambov Oblast (Russia) with 45 484 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the central part of the Oka -Don plain about 40 km east of Oblasthauptstadt Tambov Tambov Lesnoi on the river, a right tributary of the Volga river system in Zna.

Rasskasowo the Oblast is administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The station Rasskasowo located ten kilometers north-west of the railway line opened in 1871 Moscow - Tambov Saratov ( kilometer 501). Closer to the city center, the station Platonowo is the same settlement ( kilometer 515). By Rasskasowo the highway 1R 208 Tambov Kirsanof leads ( more than 209 1R to Penza ).

History

The village was founded in 1698, as here, a native of Morshansk Bauer Stepan Rasskasow settled, which was named after the place.

From the 18th to the early 20th century, the village known for its handicraft products was known as knitting and tanning goods, candles and soap. 1753 a weaving mill was established, and shortly thereafter a dyeing factory.

In 1926 the city charter was granted.

Culture and sights

In Rasskasowo friend Alexander Pushkin from the beginning of the 19th century, the apostle John's Church ( церковь Иоанна Богослова / Tserkov Ioanna Bogoslowa ) from 1895 and part of the estate of the noble family Poltorazki, close survived, as well the country estate of the industrialist family Aseyev of 1902 with palace and park.

In over 100 acres of woodland Besduschny kust near the town are remains of the former " salt road " get to Astrakhan.

Economy

In Rasskasowo there are companies in the textile industry and precision engineering.
