Zherdevka

Scherdewka (Russian Жердевка ) is a town in Tambov Oblast (Russia) with 15,209 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the southern part of the Oka -Don plain about 130 km south of the Oblasthauptstadt Tambov on the right bank of the Sawala, a right tributary of the opening into the Don Chopjor.

Scherdewka is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

A village Scherdewka about eight kilometers from the present city was established in 1745, named after the first settler FT Scherdew.

1869 (today's Volgograd) opened at the railway line under construction by the Tsaritsyn Burnak station, near which the settlement Tschibisowka originated in a row. In 1905 the station was renamed after the old village in Scherdewka.

From the 1920s was built around the station and Tschibisowka Scherdewka a number of companies in the food industry, including in 1937 a major sugar factory. 1924 Tschibisowka administrative center for the surrounding towns.

On July 15, 1954 Tschibisowka and the settlements were merged at the train station as well as the sugar factory and received under the name Scherdewka the municipal law.

Economy and infrastructure

Scherdewka is the center of the food industry. There are also companies in the construction industry.

The city is located on the 1871 through opened railway line ( Moscow ) Grjasi -Volgograd ( 603 route km from Moscow). Not far is a drive through the highway M6 Moscow-Volgograd -Astrakhan.
